Prashar Lake is located at 49 Km North of Mandi, Himachal Pradesh at an altitude of 2730 m above sea level. With its pristine blue waters, Prashar Lake is considered sacred to the sage Prashar where he meditated for eons. The Lake is surrounded by snow-capped peaks. A temple is built in praise of the great sage adjacent to the lake.

Day 01: Panarsa - Jwalapur - Parashar Lake (2700m) (1 hr drive and 8 km trek)
We will meet at Panarsa and then we will drive from Panarsa to Jwalapur, the starting point for Prashar Lake Trek. You will ascend and descend through the easy trekking trail to Prashar Lake, but the views are captivating. Trek for about 4 to 5 hours to reach Prashar Lake which has a 13th century Pagoda Temple just beside the lake.
Day 02: Prashar Lake – Jwalapur - Panarsa
Start the day with sumptuous breakfast and trek back to the Jwalapur Village. The second day's trek is a gradual descent. Once you reach Jwalapur, drive back to Panarsa. The Parashar Lake trek can be done all year round. In case you want to do a snow trek, then you can opt to do it in the months of December, January or February.
About Prashar Lake Trek
This trek is located near Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. Most of the people do not know about this trek. You can do Parashar Lake trek anytime in the year. This trek far away from the mess of city life.
This lake has cobalt blue water. This lake has a small floating island. The floating island can move in any direction. There no fixed movement pattern of the island, It can be the same place for months or years or it may move many times in a month.
There are 2-3 starting points of Parashar lake trek. The standard starting point is Baggi village near Mandi. If you are new to treks then you should do this trek with a guide.
Once you start the trek, you will see beautiful rivers. You will start your trek alongside the river then you will be diverted to the uphill climb. The climb length is 4KM approx, midway you will also see beautiful grassland. You will also cross a small village on the trail and you will also see
Himachali culture on the way. After doing the trek of 5 hours then you will first view of Lake, which you remember forever.
This is a lake in the name of Parashar rishi.Parashar Rishi meditated here. This temple was constructed in the 13th century in the honor of rishi. This lake is sacred for the locals.
Locals also tell a story about the lake- This lake was created by the Bhim( one of the Pandava brothers) when he was returning from Mahabharatha. The Pandava brothers came here with Lord Kamrung. Kamrung was mesmerized with the beauty of the location. So he decided to live here
forever then Bhim has created this lake by hitting his elbow into the mountains. One more mysterious thing about this lake is that no one knows about the depth of the lake. Many people tried to find the bottom of the lake but no one able to find the bottom of the lake.
Weather Parashar lake is situated at the height of 8960ft, most of the time in year weather is cold at Parashar lake but the weather can change any time at the lake. Weather is so unpredictable at the lake. Weather is pleasant during the summer season(April to June). During the monsoon( July and August) there is very heavy rainfall, try to avoid travel in monsoon February, April and September are the best months for the photography, you will get the best shot of the in this month. January and February are the best to snow at Parashar lake.
How to reach?
To reach the Baggi base camp of Parashar lake first you need to reach Mandi which is 50KM far from Baggi. Mandi is 430KM far from Delhi and 187KM far from Chandigarh, Volvo buses and taxi are available from Delhi and Chandigarh. The route you need to follow from Mandi is Mandi- Bijani- Kamand- Baggi- Parashar Lake.
You can also reach Kullu to reach Baggi, Baggi is 65KM far from Kullu. The route you need follow from Kullu is Kullu- Bhutar – Bajaura- Shayari- Baggi -Parashar Lake
How to reach Mandi
To save a day for the trip, you should reach early in the morning at Mandi and on the same you can start your trek to Parashar Lake.
Bhuntar airport is the nearest airport from Mandi. Mandi is 60KM far from Bhuntar airport. You need to catch a cab or bus from Airport to Mandi. If you do not want to explore Mandi or you have less time then you should direct cab to Baggi.
There is no railway station available in Mandi,
The nearest railway station is at Chandigarh, Chandigarh is 190KM(Approx) far from Mandi, you can take AC/ordinary bus or cab from Chandigarh to reach Manali. Journey's time from Chandigarh to Mandi will be around 7 hours.
If you planning to start your trip from Delhi or then you can book a cab or Volvo bus Delhi, you can catch any bus which is going to Manali, every bus which is going to Manali, it stops at Mandi. Journey time will be around 12 hrs From Delhi to Mandi.
How to reach Baggi from Mandi
Taxi and bus service is available from Mandi to Baggi bus but the frequency of bus from Mandi to Baagi is very low, In the morning between 9 to 10 a.m, 2 buses are available for Baggi then one bus available at 1 P.M
One more bus is available at 8 AM which directly goes to Parashar lake. You can catch this bus if you do not want to do the trek.
