Itinerary

Day 1: Drive from Dehradun to Sankri 

Your day one starts from Dehradun at 6:30 AM. We leave for Sankri which is the closest town to start the Kedarkantha trekking. It takes approximately 11 hours (220 km) to reach Sankri from Dehradun. During this 11 hours journey there will be halt for morning breakfast and lunch at a local restaurant which comes on the way of the route. This journey will be amidst the hilly roads of mountains, so do eat your food accordingly that doesn’t harm you during this drive. 

You will reach Sankri during the sunset time which makes your evening more beautiful setting. You can rest for the night as the next few days will require energy for you to trek on. 

 

Day 2: Sankri to Juda Ka Talab 

Today we start with our Kedarkantha trek route as we leave Sankri. After breakfast we leave Sankri and start the Kedarkantha trek to reach our campsite Juda Ka Talab. We trek through another small village Saur, from where the trail takes us to Kedarkantha’s first campsite. It’s a four km trail which will take around five hours for the trekkers to complete this. The whole trail is amidst the alpine trees and on the blanket of snow. It may be a tiring climb as it will be an incline trail which requires more energy.

 As you reach your lake campsite, you will be astonished by the view this campsite has to offer you. On your left have the Juda Ka Talab and dense pine-oak trees on your left soothing the vibes. It is said that once there were two lakes which later conjoined to formed one. You can enjoy the view, explore the area and set yourself for the next day trek.  

 

Day 3: Trek from Juda Ka Talab to Kedarkantha Basecamp 

After hot tea and breakfast you leave for your journey towards Kedarkantha basecamp. The trail from Juda Ka Talab has dense pine forest. As we continue to walk on the ridge for another half an hour, the ridge opens out to another open field. You will find a shepherd’s hut here where you can take a break and relax for a while as we have less than a thousand feet to climb to the Kedarkantha basecamp. After a short climb, in the shadows of oak trees, the route opens up into a field again. Look behind to absorb and enjoy the panorama of snow ranges surrounding Kedarkantha peak. As we climb up higher, usually over snow, we reach our destination, Kedarkantha base camp site. Snow- capped mountains like Ranglana, Kala Nag, Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, stretch from your right to your left. 

Don’t forget to lift your head up and gaze at the sky above you. You will find yourself beneath a blanket of stars. Seeing the snow sparkling at night, feels like a magical thing. You can rest for the day as your next day will start a bit early then the usual one. 

 

Day 4: Trek from Kedarkantha basecamp to Kedarkantha Peak; Decent to Hargao Camp

Day four starts a little early in the morning at 2 or 3 AM as we need to reach the Kedarkantha summit before the sunrise. It takes approximately 3-4 hours to reach the peak from the Kedarkantha basecamp. It will be dark outside so keep your head touch with you, it will be very useful. The beauty of the night will keep you moving. You could see the snow sparkling through the light of the moon and that’s the most magical thing of this trek.  

As you reach the peak, watching sunrise amidst the clouds, from the mountains covered with snow is the most blissful feeling. Every pain will be worth, seeing that view from the Kedarkantha peak. The silence over the peak feels like presence of God. The cold breeze on face will feel like a blessing. 

After the summit we return back to Kedarkantha Basecamp. The return journey will be very fun as it contains trails, which you can slide it down and enjoy the ride.

We stop at the Kedarkantha basecamp for lunch and then resume again out trek towards Hargao basecamp. As we reach Hargao, we set our tents and spend time with our fellow trekkers in the company of campfire. 

 

Day 5: Hargao Camp to Dehradun

This day is for the return journey towards Sankri which starts after your breakfast. It’s just a four hours journey. This trail is filled with stones and stream on your left which acts a fresh source of water directly from the Mountains.  The trail divides numerous times and each division leads to a dierent part of Sankri. As we reach Sankri we leave for a 10 hour drive towards Dehradun. The drive would be one a kind with pine forests and rivers as your view as your drive down. We will stop for lunch in between to enjoy food in the midst of such beauty. We will reach Dehradun by late evening. Trekkers looking to travel on Day 6 itself can be dropped at the bus stand or the railway station, as required. Anyone wanting to spend the night in the cosy city of Doon can make their bookings accordingly. For this time, our journey ends here with lots of happy memories.
