Among the several things that Lord Curzon did in India, the hands-down winner is exploration and popularising of a marquee trek route starting from Joshimath to Kuari Pass in the Garhwal Himalayas. At an altitude of 4264 meters, Kuari Top is like an amphitheatre where some of the stalwart peaks of Himalayas take stage. The 7000 meters club includes the Kamet (7756m),Trishul (7120m), Chaukhamba (7128m), and the great divine peak of Nanda Devi (7817m) and its twin Nanda Devi East (7434m). More peaks make an equally imposing appearance – Nanda Ghunti, Hathi Ghoda Parbat, Neelkanth, Dronagiri, Mukut Parbat, Mana, Rishi Pahad, and Changbang, to name a few. The Kuari Pass Trek gives you a chance to view this impressive skyline of these mighty mountains from close quarters

Itinerary

Day-1: Haridwar to Joshimath

You will be picked from Haridwar early in the morning at 6:30 AM via a car/jeep, and will arrive at Joshimath by evening, where refreshing snacks and tea will be served, followed by a delicious dinner. Fret not for beginning the day early, as breakfast and lunch will be provided along the way! The route will lead to Joshimath through Rishikesh, where you can take a break to do white water rafting; Devprayag, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, and finally Karnaprayag- each place with its own historical and geographical significance. You will spend the night at the guest house in Joshimath, where network signals will also be available.

Day-2: Joshimath to Dhak to Gulling top

Next morning, you embark on an hour long trek, and then are taken on a 12 km drive to Dhak village, followed once again by a 3km trek along a trail of steep and gradual descent, to Tugasivillage, mostly through classic villages of the area. Take a break to have a lavish lunch at the campsite after the trek. Water points are also available along the way in case you get thirsty! Continue on the 2 km trek to Gulling village to arrive at the Gulling campsite. You will spend the night in a cozy tent, and can pass the evening gazing at some beautiful peaks like Dronagri, HathiParvat, and GoriParvat.

Day-3: Gulling top to Camp

Ascend to an altitude of 11,000 ft today, following a 5.5 km trek, essentially a steep ascent through some deliciously scented oak, rhododendron and walnut forests. Receive a warm welcome with a scrumptious lunch at the campsite, ans spend the night in the lap of nature in a comfortable tent.

Day-4: Camp to Kuari pass via Khullara and back to Camp

After an early morning breakfast, you will ascend to an altitude of 12,500 feet today, with the first half of the trek being slightly steep, while the second half would make up with its slow and gradual ascent. The 7-8 km trek would give you a chance to feast your eyes on wide meadows beaming with golden sunlight and bright greenery, covered by rolling snow in the winter months. Here, access to water is limited, so it is advisable to carry enough water with you. This day in the journey is one with the highest number of peak sightings, including Kedarnath peak, Neelkantha, Mukut parvata, Ghori parvata, Chang bang, Nanda devi, amongst others.

Day-5: Camp to Dhak village to Joshimath

After a big breakfast, set out on an 11km trek to Dhak village, from where you will be driven to Joshimath, reaching there in the late afternoon. A packed but delicious lunch will be provided along the route. Upon arrival at Joshimath, relax and refresh with some tea, debriefing activities and a satisfying dinner. Clean drinking water will now be available in abundance! Spend the night at the guest house to recover from the tedious climb!

Day-6: Joshimath to Haridwar

On the last day of this memorable journey, you will be driven back to haridwar, at 6 AM, and expected to reach there by 6 PM. Breakfast and Lunch can be gorged upon at roadside inns, though these would be exclusive of charges.

The trek might have ended, but it will leave you with a suitcase full of exciting memories!
