In April 2017, the government made it mandatory for domestic and international travellers visiting several of Ladakh protected areas to get an Inner Line Permit. Obtaining an Inner Line Permit can be a time-consuming process that involves hours of standing in line, especially if your travel falls on a government holiday (Saturday and Sunday). The government recently launched an online portal via which one can register for an internal line permit (ILP) by paying INR 400 as an environmental fee plus 20 rupees per day as an inner line fee.
